ECCE Scheme

We participate in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) scheme. This provides two year’s free early childhood care and education for children of pre-school age. The programme runs for 38 weeks of the year and is available to all children who have turned 2 years and 8 months of age before 1 September.

CCSP SCHEME

The Community Childcare Subvention (CCS P) Programme is a child care programme targeted to support parents on a low income to avail of reduced child care costs at participating community child care services. The department pays for a portion of the child care costs for eligible children, with the parent paying the rest. The CCS Plus programme covers the academic year, starting in September and finishing in August.  The CCSP Programme has now been replaced by the National Childcare Scheme [NCS].  Parents can choose to stay on the CCSP Programme as long as they are eligible or until they choose to transfer to another scheme. However, the CCSP is closed to new applicants.

  • Universal Subsidy– this is available to all families with children under 3 years. It is also available to families with children over 3 years who have not yet Qualified for the free pre-school programme [ECCE]. The universal subsidy provides 50cent per hour towards the cost of childcare for up to a maximum 45 hours per week.
  • Income assessed- this subsidy is available to families with children aged between 24 weeks and 15 years. The subsidy is means- tested and is calculated based on your individual circumstances.  Your rate of subsidy will vary depending on your family income, your child’s age and the number of children in your family.
